Troy High remains atop Class AA NYS poll

Troy High remained in the top spot in the Wednesday morning's Class AA New York State Sportwriters Poll. The 4-0 Flying Horses retained it's No. 1 spot as Shaker High moved up two spots to No. 15. Still unbeaten Saratoga Springs and Colonie remained as honorable mentions for another week, still not breaking into the top 25.

Saratoga football breaks into NYS poll

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. >> Troy High (5-0) remained atop the New York State Sportswriters poll Wednesday morning, No. 1 since the poll began four weeks ago. Shaker (5-0) remained at No. 15 with the unbeaten Saratoga Springs Blue Streaks (5-0) breaking into the poll at No. 25. Christian Brothers Academy (3-2) and Shenendehowa (4-1) were honorable mentions this week.

Shen football handles Ballston Spa, 41-7

CLIFTON PARK, N.Y. >> The Shenendehowa football team executed a different game plan Friday night for its homecoming, keeping its offense on the field for longer periods of time so that the end zone student section had more to cheer about and take a step towards its post-season plans. The Plainsmen scored on six of its eight possessions and rolled past a youthful Ballston Spa squad 41-7 at Brent T.

Burnt Hills football routs Amsterdam, 50-7

Burnt Hills, N.Y. >> Burnt Hills- Ballston Lake football managed to bring the offense and defense to the game against Amsterdam and take a big 50-7 win to stay undefeated on the season. "We came out and we were able to get some momentum, which is nice," Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake football Coach Matt Shell said.

CLIFTON PARK, N.Y. >> When the horn sounded after week six Friday night, Ballston Spa boarded its bus after another loss and was looking at a post-season that hopefully would include two crossover contests. For Shenendehowa, the 41-7 victory represented another step towards the No. 2 seed in the Empire Division as it continues to rebound after a week two loss at the hands of Saratoga Springs.

CLIFTON PARK, N.Y. >> The Shenendehowa varsity football team secured the No. 2 seed in the Empire Division with a 21-10 win over Christian Brothers Academy Friday night and the Brothers continued to improve heading into the playoffs. CBA (3-3 Empire Division, 3-4 overall) turned the ball on just one occasion Friday night, a plus for the Brothers who have averaged more than three giveaways over the previous four weeks and made an opening statement during its first possession.

ATHLETE SPOTLIGHT: Blue Streak utility man: Carter Steingraber

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. >> Carter Steingraber has been one of the best players on an undefeated Saratoga Springs football team this season. He is a wide receiver, a defensive back and as the season progressed, became one of Saratoga's top running backs and players due to injuries. Steingraber said the team came together to work into the roles that needed to be filled.
