West Long Branch, N.J.
No one expected the University at Albany basketball team to finish the season unbeaten, but the Great Danes may have let one get away Monday night in absorbing their first loss.
UAlbany, which won its first six games for the first time in 31 seasons, built a nine-point halftime advantage in a nonconference meeting with Monmouth.
The Danes led for 27 minutes to the Hawks' nine, but Monmouth was the dominant team down the stretch and handed UAlbany an 81-73 lesson.
"We let too many things bother us," Danes coach Will Brown said. "We wasted an opportunity to get a good win on the road in a game I thought we could win and would win.
